Police Cop Martyred as Millitants Open Fire During Search Operation in Anantnag; Brief Exchange of Fire Ensues
Anantnag, July 22 : A Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel was martyred after millitants opened fire on security forces during a cordon and search operation in the Lal area of Anantnag district on Tuesday.
A senior police official told KNC that the operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists in the area.
Acting on the information, teams of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Special Operations Group (SOG), and other security forces reached the locality and launched a cordon and search operation. During the operation, the hiding terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on the security personnel, triggering a brief exchange of gunfire.
During the initial exchange of fire, police personnel Ashiq Hussain sustained critical injuries and was martyred in the line of duty, the official said.
The operation was still underway when this report was filed, with additional reinforcements rushed to the area to strengthen the cordon and prevent the terrorists from escaping.
Senior security officials are closely monitoring the situation, while the entire area has been placed under a tight security cordon. A thorough search operation is continuing.
