GMC Rajouri Gets 50 Additional MBBS Seats; Sakina Itoo Hails Major Boost to Medical Education

Srinagar, July 21: Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Tuesday announced that the National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 50 additional MBBS seats for Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri, describing it as a major milestone for medical education in the Union Territory.

 

Sharing the development through a post on X, the Minister said the approval would significantly enhance opportunities for aspiring medical students while further strengthening the healthcare and medical education infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.

 

The additional seats will be available from the 2026–27 academic session, increasing the intake capacity of GMC Rajouri and enabling more students to pursue MBBS education within the Union Territory.

 

The approval by the National Medical Commission is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to expand medical education and create a larger pool of qualified healthcare professionals to meet the growing needs of the region.

 

The announcement has been widely welcomed by students and the medical fraternity, who see it as another significant step towards improving access to quality medical education in Jammu and Kashmir.
