Slow Pace of Ongoing Work Leaves Pattan Residents Grappling with Waterlogging
By Shabroz Malik
Pattan, June 13: Residents of Parra Mohalla in Pattan have expressed resentment over the slow pace of ongoing excavation and earthwork in the area, alleging that inadequate drainage arrangements during the work have resulted in severe waterlogging and mud accumulation following recent rainfall.
According to locals, rainwater mixed with mud entered residential areas after yesterday’s rainfall, inundating several houses and causing considerable inconvenience to families. Residents claimed that the removal of soil and the delayed completion of the project have left the area vulnerable to flooding whenever it rains.
They alleged that roads and lanes remain waterlogged and covered with mud, making movement difficult for residents, especially children, elderly people, and patients. Several families reported that rainwater has been continuously flowing into their surroundings since yesterday, affecting their daily lives.
The situation has also disrupted the education of students studying at the nearby Degree College and Government Middle School. Residents said many students were unable to reach their institutions as access roads were submerged under water and mud. Some students reportedly had to return home, while others were taken to their schools and colleges by vehicles due to unsafe walking conditions.
Locals alleged that the slow execution of the ongoing work, coupled with the absence of proper drainage channels, has aggravated the situation and exposed residents to unnecessary hardship. They urged the authorities to expedite the project and ensure adequate drainage arrangements to prevent further inconvenience.
The residents of Parra Mohalla have appealed to the concerned authorities and executing agencies to immediately clear the accumulated water and mud, accelerate the pace of work, and take effective preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future. They warned that continued delays could lead to further problems if more rainfall occurs in the coming days.
