JAMMU — Police have recovered 804 grams of heroin and 1.114 kilograms of opium from the Talhar area of Sector Arnia in Jammu district during an investigation into a suspected narcotics smuggling module allegedly linked to a drone-dropping incident, officials said on Wednesday.
The recovery was made under Operation Sanjeevani during the investigation of FIR No. 186/2026, registered at Police Station RS Pura under Sections 8, 18, 21, 22 and 27 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to police, the case originated on October 20 after information was received about the alleged consumption of narcotics by Sunny Kumar, 26, son of Tarsem Lal and a resident of Kotli Mirdian in Suchetgarh tehsil, near a ditch in his village.
During the investigation and subsequent questioning, his alleged links to a narcotics smuggling module connected with a drone-dropping incident came to light, police said.
A police team led by the Station House Officer of RS Pura subsequently recovered the narcotics from the Talhar area of Sector Arnia.
Preliminary investigation has indicated a suspected cross-border link involving the use of drones to smuggle narcotics into Indian territory, police said.
Further investigation is underway to identify the source of the consignment, its intended recipients and other persons allegedly involved in the trafficking network. — (KIMS)
