Police bust jail-linked terror financing module in Shopian, 10 arrested

SHOPIAN — Jammu and Kashmir Police have busted an alleged jail-linked terror financing module in Shopian district, arresting 10 people for their suspected involvement in raising and channelising funds to support terrorist activities linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and The Resistance Front (TRF).

According to police, the breakthrough came following a focused investigation into suspicious online financial transactions carried out through various payment platforms. Analysis of the transactions helped investigators trace money trails across multiple layers and uncover a wider network of individuals allegedly linked to terrorists and their associates lodged in different jails.

Police said the accused were allegedly collecting funds from the general public and channelising the money through established financial networks to facilitate terrorist activities. The funds were also allegedly used to provide logistical support, including smartphones, to further such activities.

The arrested persons have been identified as Owais Shafi Naikoo of Saidpora Bala, Shopian; Tajamul Ahmad Shah of Rawalpora, Shopian; Moiz Iqbal and Imdad Yousuf Ganie, both residents of Chitragam Kalan; Saqib Zahoor Wani and Liyaqat Nazir Lone, both residents of Murran, Pulwama; Aamir Ahmad Ganie of Armolah, Pulwama; Firdous Thokar of Nadigund Trenz; and Mohd Hanief and Kaju, both residents of Check Haria, Kathua.

In this connection, FIR No. 231/2026 has been registered at Police Station Shopian under relevant sections of law.

Police said further investigation is underway to establish additional financial linkages, identify other individuals involved in the network and ascertain its wider reach. More arrests are expected.

The operation, police said, reflects their continued efforts, in coordination with other security agencies, to dismantle terror-support networks and disrupt unlawful financial channels across Jammu and Kashmir. — (KIMS)
