LeT Operative ‘Khargosh’ Traced in Saudi Arabia, Raises Major Security Concerns: Former J&K DGP

Jammu: A major security concern has emerged after Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative Umer Harris, alias “Khargosh,” was reportedly traced in Saudi Arabia. The development has triggered serious questions over India’s security and verification systems.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Shesh Paul Vaid said that Harris is originally a resident of Pakistan and was facing cases there before being recruited into terrorism.

According to Vaid, Harris was allegedly aided by ISIS in joining Lashkar-e-Taiba, where he underwent training and radicalisation before infiltrating India. He reportedly operated across multiple states within the country.

What has raised alarm is the claim that Harris managed to obtain a fake Indian passport and used it to travel abroad. Vaid termed this a “huge security threat,” questioning how such a breach occurred despite strict immigration protocols.

He further raised concerns over the police verification process, asking how a fake identity could pass official checks. He stressed that if any officials are found complicit in facilitating the documents, strict action including dismissal must follow.

“This is extremely serious,” Vaid said, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation into possible lapses in documentation, verification, and immigration systems.

Security agencies are expected to probe the matter in detail to determine how the operative managed to evade detection and leave the country using forged credentials.
