J&K Govt Set to Roll Out New Anti-Drug Policy with Tough Crackdown on Peddlers
Srinagar:
The Jammu and Kashmir administration is set to introduce a comprehensive new anti-drug policy aimed at eliminating the drug menace and safeguarding youth across the region. Official sources told ANN News that the policy includes stringent punitive measures along with large-scale awareness and rehabilitation initiatives.
According to officials, properties of drug peddlers will be seized, while identified narcotics hotspots will face demolition under strict enforcement measures. The policy also proposes cancellation of passports of those involved in drug trafficking, signaling a zero-tolerance approach.
In addition to enforcement, the government is focusing on prevention and recovery. Awareness programs will be launched at the grassroots level, covering villages and local communities. Sports activities will be promoted to engage youth in positive pursuits, while structured counseling and training programs will be introduced to support rehabilitation.
The Health Department will take full charge of de-addiction centers to ensure standardized treatment and proper monitoring. Authorities have also decided that all unregistered and illegal de-addiction centers will be shut down in the coming phase.
Officials believe that this multi-pronged strategy combining enforcement, awareness, and rehabilitation will play a crucial role in making Jammu and Kashmir drug-free.
