Ahmedabad, July 3: In a major counter-terrorism operation, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested eight individuals accused of allegedly working for the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and conspiring to establish a network in Gujarat to promote extremist ideology and plan terrorist activities.
According to the Gujarat ATS, the operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs indicating that the accused were allegedly in contact with Pakistan-based JeM handlers and were attempting to recruit and radicalize individuals. Investigators claim the group translated JeM literature into Gujarati to expand the organization’s reach and allegedly received around ₹3 lakh to further its activities, including purchasing a vehicle.
Simultaneous raids were conducted across Mehsana, Banaskantha, Patan, Navsari, and Dewas (Madhya Pradesh), resulting in the arrest of eight suspects. During the searches, ATS officials said they recovered alleged JeM-related literature, Urdu letters addressed to JeM chief Masood Azhar, digital extremist content, and other material that forms part of the investigation.
A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is continuing to determine whether additional individuals were involved.
The Gujarat ATS stated that the operation reflects its continued efforts to identify and dismantle alleged terror networks and prevent activities that threaten national security.
