Former Executive Engineer convicted in anti-corruption trap case

SRINAGAR — The Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Srinagar, has convicted a former Executive Engineer and an orderly in a corruption trap case involving the demand and acceptance of illegal gratification during the processing of a contractor’s bill.

The convicts have been identified as Ghulam Nabi Dar, the then Executive Engineer, Rural Engineering Works (REW), Ganderbal, and Mohd. Shameem Parra, the then Orderly.

The case, registered as FIR No. 02/2014 at Police Station VOK (now ACB) Srinagar, was related to the demand and acceptance of illegal gratification in connection with the processing of a contractor’s bill.

The court found both accused guilty under Section 5(2) read with Section 5(1)(d) of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act for criminal misconduct, Section 4-A of the Act for accepting illegal gratification, and Section 120-B of the Ranbir Penal Code for criminal conspiracy.

The court sentenced each convict to four years of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on each count. The sentences will run concurrently.

The case was represented before the court by Special Public Prosecutor Wajahat Jamil (CPO) on behalf of the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

The judgment was pronounced on August 14, 2026, by Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Srinagar, Tasleem Arief. — (KIMS)
