Cardiologist Says Documentary Evidence Submitted; Urges Public Not to Draw Premature Conclusions
Srinagar, June 20 (ANN): Cardiologist Dr. Syed Maqbool has rejected the allegations levelled against him in connection with the ongoing departmental inquiry into alleged irregularities related to cardiac procedures at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, stating that the matter remains under investigation and no findings have been established so far.
Speaking to media, Dr. Maqbool said that the contents of the departmental memorandum were being portrayed as a final verdict despite the inquiry process still being underway.
“What is being circulated in the media is totally different from the actual report. A memorandum containing allegations cannot be treated as a final conclusion,” he said.
The cardiologist maintained that a detailed response to the allegations has already been submitted before the competent authorities and that documentary evidence has been furnished in support of his defence.
“We have replied to every allegation with documentary evidence. The matter is under consideration and we have full faith in the system. Justice will ultimately prevail,” Dr. Maqbool said.
He appealed to the public and media to allow the inquiry process to reach its logical conclusion and avoid drawing premature conclusions.
“An inquiry is meant to establish facts, not to pronounce guilt before the process is complete,” he said.
Meanwhile, noted medico and health activist Dr. Mohammad Momin Khan also emphasized the importance of due process and cautioned against treating allegations as proof of wrongdoing.
“An inquiry is meant to establish facts, not deliver a verdict. Unfortunately, allegations often lead to instant public judgment, with reputations being damaged long before any investigation is completed,” he said.
Dr. Momin described Dr. Maqbool as an experienced cardiologist who has treated thousands of patients over the years, including people from economically weaker sections.
“If any wrongdoing is ultimately established, accountability must follow. But until then, fairness demands restraint and respect for due process,” he added.
The controversy emerged after the Health and Medical Education Department initiated departmental proceedings against Dr. Maqbool over alleged irregularities related to PMJAY-SEHAT claims, procedural records and procurement practices. The department has sought his explanation and the matter is currently under official inquiry.
Officials have stated that the final outcome will depend upon the findings of the ongoing investigation and the evidence placed before the inquiry authorities. (ANN)
