CIK Arrests Two in Kashmir Over Alleged Dissemination of Radical, Anti-National Content

SRINAGAR: Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) has arrested two persons in connection with a case involving the alleged dissemination of radical and anti-national content through social media platforms.

 

The arrests were made on Sunday, a day after CIK conducted raids at multiple locations across the Kashmir Valley in connection with FIR No. 03/2023, registered at Police Station CIK Srinagar.

 

The arrested individuals have been identified as Mehran Qazi, son of Atta Mohammad Qazi, a resident of Hiller Shahbad, Dooru, Anantnag, and Babar Hamid Dar, son of Abdul Hamid Dar, a resident of Chankan, Sopore.

 

According to CIK, the raids were conducted on August 8, during which six digital devices and seven SIM cards were seized for detailed examination.

 

The case has been registered under Sections 505 and 153-A of the IPC and Sections 13 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

 

CIK said the investigation pertains to the alleged dissemination of content carrying radical and anti-national overtones, including radical narratives, glorification and projection of individuals associated with terrorism, extremist viewpoints, and material that could potentially influence or radicalise impressionable minds.

 

The investigation remains underway, while the seized digital material is being examined in accordance with law.
