Admin cracks down on early exit; 80 staff found absent at Baramulla college

BARAMULLA — A surprise inspection at Government Degree College (Boys), Baramulla, on Monday found 80 out of 179 staff members absent from the institution before the prescribed closing time of 3:45 PM, prompting the District Administration to seek biometric attendance records for verification.

The inspection was conducted by a team of the District Administration headed by Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Baramulla, on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, following reports of premature departure by staff members, officials told KIMS.

During the inspection, nearly 45 per cent of the total staff strength, including Heads of Departments (HODs), Assistant Professors and Lecturers, were found absent from the college premises before the completion of official working hours.

Taking serious note of the findings, the administration has obtained biometric attendance records to verify the attendance status of the concerned employees and ascertain whether they had left the institution before the completion of official working hours.

The incident has raised concerns over adherence to government-prescribed working hours and accountability in the functioning of the government institution.

The District Administration has emphasised the need for punctuality and strict compliance with official instructions, adding that further action, if warranted, will be taken in accordance with applicable rules and procedures. — (KIMS)
