Seven held in Shopian over suspicious ‘Trath Gola’ deal, ₹5 lakh cash recovered
SHOPIAN — Jammu and Kashmir Police in Shopian have apprehended seven persons in connection with a suspicious transaction involving a stone allegedly being projected as a rare and valuable “Trath Gola” or meteorite, officials said on Saturday.
The seven were brought to Police Station Heerpora for questioning and further legal proceedings. They have been identified as Zahoor Ahmad Bhat of Bagi Islam, Baramulla; Safeeruddin Mir of Rajghat, Baramulla; Abdul Rashid Kirmani of Rawalpora, Srinagar; Mohammad Shafi Mir of Zaloora, Sopore; Imtiyaz Ahmad Bakloo of Pushroo Shangus, Anantnag; Arshid Ahmad Wani of Khurri Batpora, Kulgam; and Syed Gulzar Ahmad of Lakdipora Nihama.
During preliminary inquiry, police recovered ₹5 lakh in cash from the spot along with a box containing a stone, which was allegedly being represented as a rare and valuable “Trath Gola” or meteorite.
Two vehicles, an Alto bearing registration number JK01AQ-1311 and another Alto bearing registration number JK03B-5955, were also brought to Police Station Heerpora for further examination.
Police said an FIR, numbered 95/2026, has been registered at Police Station Heerpora under relevant provisions of law. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the complete facts and circumstances surrounding the transaction.
Police have also cautioned people against falling victim to fraudulent claims involving purportedly rare, precious or meteorite stones, advising citizens to verify the authenticity and value of such objects through competent authorities before entering into any financial transaction. — (KIMS)
