Man wanted in POCSO case arrested in Doda
Jammu, Aug 8: A man wanted for allegedly abducting and raping a minor girl was arrested in Doda district on Saturday after evading arrest for nearly two years, police said.
The accused, a resident of Bhata Chaka village, was booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Doda police station in 2024 and had been absconding since then, a police spokesperson said.
He said a general warrant of arrest had been issued against the accused by the Court of Principal Sessions Judge, Bhaderwah, on August 28 last year.
Acting on credible information and through sustained efforts, the absconder was successfully apprehended by a police party from Doda and was subsequently produced before the court, the spokesperson said.
As per the directions of the court, the accused has been lodged in Bhaderwah district jail, he said. (PTI)
