Cloudbursts disrupt drinking water supply to Anantnag town, adjoining areas
ANANTNAG (KIMS) — The Jal Shakti Department on Monday issued a public advisory stating that potable water supply to Anantnag town and several adjoining areas has been affected due to multiple cloudbursts in the upper reaches of the Pahalgam area of the district.
According to the department, the cloudbursts have rendered the raw water sourced from Lidder Nallah extremely turbid, exceeding the treatment capacity of the Filtration Plant at Bumzoo.
As a result, the drinking water supply to Anantnag town and surrounding areas, including Uranhal, Batengoo, Khandipora, T.B. Shah, Donipawa, Mattan and other nearby localities, will remain affected until further notice.
The department has appealed to the public to use the available water judiciously and conserve drinking water during the disruption.
It said that normal water supply will be restored as soon as the quality of the source water improves and treatment operations at the filtration plant resume.
The department has also issued emergency contact numbers for public assistance, including the Assistant Engineer (9797778484), Works Supervisor (9797284423), and Tanker Service In-charge (7006243011). — (KIMS)
