Mirwaiz Umar Farooq placed under house arrest ahead of Imam Bara address
SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday said he was placed under house arrest ahead of his scheduled address at Imam Bara Bemina, where he was invited to deliver a sermon commemorating the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala.
According to a statement, Mirwaiz said he was scheduled to address the gathering at the invitation of Aga Syed Haadi as a gesture of Shia-Sunni unity and to pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala, but was prevented from attending the gathering after being placed under house arrest.
The Mirwaiz said Kashmir has always stood as a symbol of mutual respect, brotherhood and religious harmony, adding that love for the Ahl-e-Bayt (RA) and reverence for the companions of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) form an integral part of our faith’s shared spiritual heritage.
He said that at a time when society is facing multiple challenges, unity, restraint, mutual respect and standing together are more important than ever.
The Mirwaiz urged people not to allow divisive forces to weaken the centuries-old bonds of communal harmony and coexistence that have long defined the people of Kashmir.
Appealing to people across all sections of society, he called upon them to uphold dignity, patience and mutual respect, and honour the enduring message of Karbala by remaining steadfast in truth, compassion, justice and unity. — (KIMS)
