Agents Playing With Patients’ Lives in GMC Anantnag? Serious Questions Raised Over Referral Practices

By Arif Rashid

Anantnag, June 12: Serious concerns have surfaced over the alleged presence of agents operating within the premises of Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, who are reportedly misleading patients and influencing their treatment for personal gains.

According to details received by ANN News, a patient from the Shahabad area of Anantnag, suffering from abdominal pain and constipation, visited GMC Anantnag for medical consultation. After obtaining an OPD ticket from the registration counter, he was reportedly assigned Room No. 107 for consultation.

However, the patient allegedly came into contact with an individual roaming within the hospital premises who changed the room number on the OPD ticket and redirected him to the Homeopathy Section without authorization. The patient was subsequently examined there and prescribed multiple medicines, with instructions to purchase them from a particular medical store.

Family members alleged that after consuming the prescribed medicines, the patient’s condition deteriorated during the evening, forcing them to seek medical advice from another doctor in their locality. Upon reviewing the prescription, the doctor reportedly informed them that some of the medicines prescribed were generally used for piles-related ailments, whereas the patient had not complained of such symptoms.

The incident has raised serious questions about the activities of unauthorized agents allegedly operating within the hospital premises and influencing patients’ treatment pathways. Such practices, if proven true, can endanger patient safety and undermine public trust in healthcare institutions.

Locals and patient rights activists have urged the GMC Anantnag administration to investigate the matter thoroughly, identify those involved, and take strict action against any agent network functioning inside the hospital. They stressed that immediate measures are needed to protect patients from exploitation and ensure that medical consultations are conducted strictly through authorized channels.

When contacted regarding the allegations, Medical Superintendent GMC Anantnag, Dr. Bilal Ahmad, said that the hospital administration has taken note of the matter and will conduct a thorough inquiry.

“We will launch a probe into the incident and ascertain the facts. If any individual is found involved in misleading patients or indulging in unauthorized activities within the hospital premises, strict action will be taken and the culprits will be punished as per rules,” Dr. Bilal Ahmad told ANN News.

He assured that patient welfare remains the top priority of the hospital administration and that no one will be allowed to compromise the healthcare services being provided to the public.

Hospital authorities are expected to investigate the matter, as unchecked agent activities within healthcare institutions could pose a significant threat to public health and patient welfare.
