Pulwama police intensifies anti-drug drive; awareness programmes, rally organised
Pulwama, May 8: Continuing its sustained efforts under the ongoing 100 Days Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, Pulwama Police carried out a series of enforcement, preventive, and awareness activities across the district to combat the drug menace and strengthen public participation against substance abuse.
As part of the ongoing anti-drug enforcement drive, a significant drug consignment was recovered during a joint operation conducted in coordination with the Drug Control Department. Further intensifying regulatory checks, several medical shops at Rahmoo were jointly inspected by Police and the Drug Inspector Pulwama. During the inspection, one medical shop was sealed on the spot for non-maintenance of mandatory records. Continuing the crackdown, a CASO (Cordon and Search Operation) was also launched in the district, during which houses of suspected drug peddlers and adjoining premises were searched for NDPS-related contraband.
Meanwhile, under the ongoing campaign, poppy straw cultivated on small patches of land was voluntarily destroyed by local villagers, reflecting increasing public awareness and active community participation in curbing drug-related activities.
On the awareness front, multiple anti-drug awareness programmes were organised across the district, sensitizing participants about the harmful effects of substance abuse and encouraging the public to cooperate with police by sharing information related to drug peddling and narcotics activities. Awareness regarding the devastating social and health-related consequences of drug addiction was also spread through public interaction programmes and outreach activities. Vehicle checking was also intensified at various locations to monitor suspicious movement and prevent transportation of narcotic substances.
Further strengthening community engagement, an anti-drug rally was also organised, spreading awareness among the local population and reinforcing the collective resolve towards building a drug-free society.
Pulwama Police reiterates its firm commitment to continue strict enforcement, preventive action, and sustained awareness initiatives under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and urges the public to actively support the mission by reporting drug-related activities.
