Wanted lady drug peddler arrested in Anantnag, contraband seized: Police
SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Police on Tuesday said they have arrested a wanted woman drug peddler and recovered contraband substance, suspected to be heroin, from her possession during a naka checking in Dialgam area of Anantnag district in South Kashmir.
According to a police statement, a team from Police Post Dialgam had laid a routine naka at Laalan Bypass when a woman approaching from Bondialgam towards Laalan attempted to flee on spotting the police party, raising suspicion.
The alert naka party acted swiftly and apprehended her on the spot. During personal search, contraband substance, apparently heroin-like in nature, was recovered from her possession.
The accused has been identified as Shugafta Akhter, daughter of Mohd Hussain Dar, a resident of Dangerpora, Anantnag.
Police said that a case under FIR No. 130/2026 under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the concerned police station and further investigation has been taken up.
Police described the arrested woman as a notorious and most-wanted drug peddler involved in multiple NDPS cases, adding that her arrest is a significant success in the ongoing drive against drug trafficking in the district. — (KIMS)
