5 drug peddlers arrested, over 3.93 kg contraband seized in Anantnag: Police
SRINAGAR (KIMS) — In a continued crackdown against drug trafficking and substance abuse, Anantnag Police on Tuesday said they have registered four NDPS cases, arrested five drug peddlers and seized over 3.93 kilograms of narcotic substances in multiple operations across the district.
According to a police statement, in the first operation, a police party from Police Station Mattan during routine patrolling at Seer Hamdan near the Cricket Stadium on Sandooz Road intercepted a suspicious person carrying polythene bags from Seer towards Sandooz.
Upon search, police recovered 530 grams of charas powder-like substance and 3.345 kilograms of grinded poppy straw from his possession. The accused was identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Mir, son of Gh Mohammad Mir, a resident of Seer Hamdan, and is stated to be a notorious drug peddler of the area.
Accordingly, a case under FIR No. 50/2026 has been registered at Police Station Mattan and investigation has been set into motion.
In another operation, a team from Police Station Bijbehara during naka checking at NHW-44 near Landing Strip Bijbehara apprehended two drug peddlers identified as Talib Gull Shah, son of Gull Mohammad Shah, resident of Qaimoh Khudwani, and Aqib Ahmad Malik, son of Gull Mohammad Malik, resident of Railway Colony Sadoora.
During their search, 8.18 grams of brown sugar-like substance (along with polythene) was recovered from their possession. In this regard, FIR No. 116/2026 under Sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered and investigation has been initiated.
In a separate operation, Police Station Bijbehara during naka checking at Railway Crossing Hassanpora apprehended another drug peddler identified as Shafqat Ahmad Sofi, son of Mohammad Yousuf Sofi, resident of Qaimoh Khudwani.
During his search, 5.58 grams of brown sugar-like substance (along with polythene) was recovered. Accordingly, FIR No. 117/2026 under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act has been registered and investigation has been set into motion.
Moreover, in another operation, Police Station Bijbehara apprehended one more drug peddler identified as Jaffar Mushtaq Dar, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, resident of Tulkhan, during naka checking at Tulkhan Road.
During his search, 49 grams of charas (sticks), concealed in corn flakes, was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, FIR No. 118/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered and investigation has been taken up.
Police said that with these operations, Anantnag Police has once again demonstrated its firm resolve to dismantle narcotics networks and protect society from the menace of drugs.
