CCIK Delegation Meets Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary

 

 

Srinagar, April 28: A delegation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries Kashmir (CCIK) called on the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Surinder Kumar Choudhary, to discuss pressing issues concerning the business community, particularly those affecting the historic downtown area of Srinagar (Shahr-e-Khaas).

 

The delegation was led by President Mr. Tariq Ghani, along with office bearers including Joint Secretary Mr. Atif, Chief Coordinator Ashiq Bhat, Youth President Zubair, and Convener Umar Jan.

 

The delegation emphasized that Srinagar’s development must extend beyond Gupkar and the Civil Secretariat, stressing that Shahr-e-Khaas remains the cultural and commercial backbone of the city and deserves equal attention.

 

 

Key Issues Raised

 

🔹 Industrial Policy & Solar Subsidy

CCIK strongly advocated for the inclusion of solar subsidy provisions in the Industrial Policy of Jammu & Kashmir to promote sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions.

Concerns were also raised about the poor condition of roads in industrial estates, calling for immediate maintenance.

 

🔹 Neglect of Shahr-e-Khaas

Serious concern was expressed over the continued neglect of the historic downtown area, which holds immense cultural, historical, and commercial value.

 

🔹 Encroachment Issues

Widespread encroachments on roads and footpaths were highlighted as a major cause of congestion, affecting pedestrian movement and market accessibility.

 

🔹 Declining Business Activity

The delegation pointed out the alarming decline in business activity in downtown markets due to poor infrastructure, lack of upkeep, and inadequate administrative attention.

 

 

Key Assurances

 

The Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister assured the delegation that:

 

✔️ He will personally visit Shahr-e-Khaas in the first week of May, along with concerned departments and CCIK members.

✔️ On-the-spot assessment and resolution of key issues will be carried out.

✔️ The Industrial Policy will be amended to address concerns of the business community.

✔️ All genuine demands raised by CCIK will be positively considered.
