J&K Govt approves 18% fare hike for commercial passenger vehicles, fixes rates for e-rickshaws and e-autos
SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Wednesday approved an 18 percent increase in the maximum chargeable fare for various categories of commercial passenger vehicles across the Union Territory.
According to a notification issued by the Transport Department, Civil Secretariat, J&K, in exercise of powers under Section 67 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the Transport Commissioner has been directed to implement the revised fare structure as a modification to the earlier notification issued on March 19, 2021.
As per the notification, the 18 percent fare hike will apply to Big Buses (Stage Carriages), Medium and Mini Buses (Stage Carriages), Taxi and Maxi Cabs (base model contract carriages such as Sumo, Bolero, Tata Indica, Swift, Tata Winger and Tempo Traveller etc), medium segment tourist Taxi/Maxi Cabs including Tavera, Scorpio, Qualis and Xylo etc, premium class tourist Taxi/Maxi Cabs including Innova and Fortuner etc, petrol-operated Auto Rickshaws, and Tata Magic stage carriages.
The government has also separately fixed fares for electric passenger transport services in the Union Territory.
Under the new rates, E-rickshaws will charge Rs 15 per kilometre, while E-autos will charge Rs 25 for the first kilometre and Rs 20 for each subsequent kilometre. — (KIMS)
