Two dead, 21 injured as vehicle plunges into gorge in Rajouri

Rajouri, Oct 10: Two people were killed and 21 others injured when a passenger vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Moghla area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Friday, officials said.

The accident occurred around 6 pm while the vehicle was returning from Marchola village, where the passengers had gone to offer condolences, they said.

The deceased, identified as Balbir Singh (45) and Pritam Singh, both residents of Moghla, were brought dead to Primary Health Centre (PHC) Moghla.

Locals and police personnel launched a rescue operation and shifted the injured, including women and elderly people, to the hospital, they said.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Kalakote Mohammad Tanveer said some seriously injured persons were referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri and Narayana Hospital in Katra for specialised treatment, while the others were undergoing treatment.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident. (PTI)
