Three apprehended for public drinking, liquor serving in Jammu
JAMMU — Jammu Police have launched action against public drinking and serving of liquor in RS Pura, apprehending three persons and seizing liquor bottles from the spot, officials said on Tuesday.
Police Station RS Pura took action after receiving information about liquor being served and consumed at a meat shop in the area.
According to police, Yaspaul alias Bhola, son of Basakhi Ram and a resident of Puro Bhana, RS Pura, was apprehended for allegedly serving liquor at his shop. Two others, Amit Kumar, son of Basakhi Ram, of Puro Bhana, and Sham Lal, son of Dwarka Nath, of Bolari, RS Pura, were allegedly found consuming liquor at the same premises.
Police said both Amit Kumar and Sham Lal were medically examined and found to be under the influence of alcohol. Liquor bottles were also seized from the spot.
A case, FIR No. 160/2026 under Section 50-A of the Excise Act, has been registered at Police Station RS Pura, and further investigation is underway.
Jammu Police said the action forms part of its ongoing drive to curb drinking and serving of liquor at public places and maintain law and order.
Police warned that strict legal action would be taken against those found violating the law, stating that the drive is aimed at ensuring public safety and maintaining a peaceful environment for citizens. — (KIMS)
