Review Hookah Bar Permissions Near Educational Institutions to Protect Students: PDP
Srinagar, June 08 : People’s Democratic Party (PDP) spokesperson Zuhaib Yousf Mir has expressed serious concern over reports of hookah bars operating in close proximity to colleges and educational institutions in Srinagar, where a significant number of young students are reportedly frequenting such establishments.
While appreciating the administration’s ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse and promote a drug-free Jammu & Kashmir, Mir said that these efforts must be complemented by strict regulation of activities that may encourage unhealthy habits among the youth. He noted that the presence of hookah bars near educational institutions raises legitimate concerns among parents, educators, and society at large.
“The government cannot afford a selective approach towards safeguarding our youth. If we are serious about protecting young people from substance abuse and harmful addictions, then the functioning of hookah bars near colleges and schools must be reviewed with utmost urgency,” Mir said.
He urged the administration to conduct a comprehensive review of permissions granted to such establishments, ensure strict enforcement of age restrictions, and take necessary corrective measures wherever violations are found. He further stressed that educational zones should remain conducive to learning and personal development rather than becoming hubs for activities that may negatively influence students.
Mir called upon the authorities to act responsibly and proactively in the larger interest of students and the future of Jammu & Kashmir’s youth.
