Poppy Cultivation Busted in Woyen, FIR Registered as Police Intensify Anti-Drug Drive

Awantipora, April 28, 2026:

In a continued offensive against the drug menace under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, Awantipora Police destroyed illicit poppy cultivation in Woyen and registered a formal case to trace those involved in the illegal activity.

Police Station Khrew, in coordination with the Revenue and Agriculture Departments, conducted a poppy destruction drive at Green Colony Woyen, where illegal poppy cultivation was detected during the operation.

Officials said the cultivation was destroyed on the spot in accordance with legal procedures, dealing a blow to attempts to promote narcotics at the source level.

Following the action, an FIR has been registered and investigation has been initiated to identify and proceed against all persons involved in the unlawful cultivation.

Police said the action reflects a zero-tolerance approach against narcotics, with authorities not only targeting trafficking networks but also cracking down on the cultivation and supply chain fueling the drug trade.

The campaign against drugs is being pursued on multiple fronts across the region, with police reiterating that strict legal action will continue against those attempting to promote or profit from the menace of narcotics.
