Police register case over provocative social media posts in Budgam

Srinagar, Jun 15: Police have registered a case against individuals allegedly involved in creating and circulating social media content that could hurt religious sentiments and promote enmity between communities in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam on Monday, officials said.

“Police have registered an FIR at Budgam police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against individuals involved in creating and circulating content on social media that can outrage religious feelings and can promote enmity and hatred between religious groups particularly in view of the forthcoming holy month of Muharram,” a police spokesman said.

Acting on credible inputs regarding the circulation of provocative videos and misinformation, police have initiated an investigation to identify all those responsible and take appropriate legal action in accordance with law, he said.

“J&K Police appeals to the public to exercise restraint while using social media and refrain from creating, sharing, or forwarding any content that may incite hatred, hurt religious sentiments, or disturb public order. Any person found involved in such activities shall be dealt with strictly as per law,” the spokesman added. (PTI)
