Police crack Khidmat Centre theft case in Baramulla, accused arrested
BARAMULLA — Police in Baramulla have arrested a man in connection with the theft of ₹83,000 from a Khidmat Centre at Mirpora, Mamoosa in Pattan and recovered ₹5,130 from his residence, officials said.
Police said the theft took place on September 25 when the centre operator, Mir Waheed, had left the premises to offer Friday prayers. On his return, he found that an unidentified person had entered the centre and stolen the cash. The CCTV storage device was also missing.
Following a complaint, Police Station Pattan registered FIR No. 222/2026 under Sections 305 and 331(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.
Using technical inputs and the ICJS portal, police identified the suspect as Rameez Ahmad Naikoo, son of Gh Mohammad Naikoo, a resident of Bhan, Kulgam. A police team was subsequently dispatched to Kulgam, where the accused was apprehended and arrested.
During questioning, police said ₹5,130 in cash was recovered from his residential house and seized as per procedure.
Police further said verification through ICJS and records of different police stations revealed that the accused had previously been involved in 14 theft-related cases registered across various districts of the Valley, including Kulgam, Shopian, Anantnag, Pulwama, Awantipora, Pattan, Kokernag, Handwara and Tral.
Further investigation is underway to establish the accused’s full involvement in the case and recover the remaining stolen property. — (KIMS)
