Police arrest two drug peddlers in Shopian, Pulwama; recover charas, codeine
SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday arrested two alleged drug peddlers in Shopian and Pulwama districts of South Kashmir and recovered charas and codeine bottles from their possession.
In Shopian, police said a drug peddler was arrested during naka checking at Manihal Crossing, where a team from Police Station Imamsahib intercepted a person moving under suspicious circumstances.
During his personal search, around 44 grams of charas sticks were recovered, police said. The accused was identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, son of Jalal-ud-din Dar, a resident of Tulkhan, Bijbehara.
A case vide FIR No. 51/2026 under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Imamsahib, while investigation has been initiated to establish the forward and backward linkages and dismantle the wider drug network, police said.
Meanwhile, in Pulwama, police apprehended a person during naka checking at Checkpora Bypass Bridge and recovered 27 bottles of Wecan-D (Codeine).
According to police, a team from Police Post Newa intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number JK01BD-5904, travelling from Pulwama towards Newa. During checking, the bottles were found concealed beneath the motorcycle seat.
The rider was identified as Adil Bashir Ganie, son of Bashir Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Dangerpora, Pulwama, and was apprehended on the spot.
Police said FIR No. 141/2026 has been registered at Police Station Pulwama under relevant provisions of law. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the recovered substance and trace other possible linkages. — (KIMS)
