Police arrest absconder wanted in NDPS case since 2015 in Ramban

RAMBAN — District Police Ramban have arrested an absconder who had been evading arrest for nearly a decade in a narcotics-related case registered at Police Station Batote in 2015.

The accused, identified as Aijaz Ahmed, son of Mohd Shabir Bhat, a resident of Churath in Kulgam district, was wanted in connection with FIR No. 68/2015 registered under Sections 8/15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Batote.

According to police, a warrant under Section 335 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), corresponding to Section 512 of the erstwhile Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), had been issued against the accused by the Sessions Court Ramban.

Acting on sustained efforts to trace absconders, a police team comprising ASI Ravinder Kumar Sharma and Constable Abdul Gani apprehended the accused in Jammu on October 15, 2026.

Police said the arrest was part of the district police’s ongoing drive against absconders and proclaimed offenders to ensure the execution of court-issued warrants and bring law evaders to justice. — (KIMS)
