One Non-Local Worker Killed, Another Critically Injured in Kulgam Terror Attack Days After Anantnag Incident

Kulgam, July 31 (ANN): Days after a terror attack in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, terrorists struck again on Friday evening, targeting two non-local labourers working at a brick kiln in the Kellam area of Kulgam district. The attack has renewed security concerns in the region after a period during which such incidents had significantly declined.

According to officials, the two non-local workers were at work at a brick kiln when terrorists opened fire on them, leaving both critically injured. They were immediately rushed to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for treatment.

Doctors at GMC Anantnag declared one of the workers, identified as Deepak Kumar, a resident of Chhattisgarh, brought dead. The second injured labourer, Bupinder Kumar, was referred to a hospital in Srinagar in critical condition for specialised treatment.

Soon after the attack, Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Army, CRPF and other security agencies rushed to the area. Security forces cordoned off the locality and launched a massive search operation to trace the attackers. Additional checkpoints were established, while searches were intensified in and around the area.

The latest attack comes only days after another terror incident in Anantnag, raising fresh concerns over the security situation in south Kashmir. Although terror-related incidents in the region had witnessed a noticeable decline in recent months, the back-to-back attacks have created anxiety among local residents, traders, tourists and non-local workers.

Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. The search operation to apprehend the attackers was continuing at the time of filing this report.
