Mehbooba visits slain policeman’s family, flash flood victims in Budgam; seeks govt support
SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday visited Lolpora in Beerwah area of Budgam district to offer condolences to the family of Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi, who was killed in the line of duty in Anantnag district on July 22 and later met families affected by the recent flash floods in the area.
According to a post on X by the PDP, Mehbooba Mufti expressed sympathies with the bereaved family of the slain police personnel and urged the government to provide suitable government employment to his children so that the family can live with dignity and security.
She said the sacrifice of a martyr should be honoured not only through tributes but also by standing firmly with the family left behind. During the visit, she was accompanied by PDP leader Ghulam Ahmad Khan, In-charge Beerwah.
The PDP president also visited families affected by the devastating flash floods in Beerwah and expressed solidarity with those who suffered losses to their livelihoods.
She urged the government to immediately provide the vacant Municipal Building to the affected shopkeepers for storing the belongings they had managed to salvage.
Mehbooba also called for the identification of suitable land for the construction of a new commercial complex and sought adequate compensation to help the affected families rebuild their lives.
She said relief measures should go beyond announcements and restore hope among the affected people. — (KIMS)
