Mehbooba seeks Crime Branch probe into Kishtwar schoolgirl rape-murder case
SRINAGAR — PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday urged J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to hand over the case of the alleged rape and murder of a schoolgirl in Chatroo, Kishtwar, to the Crime Branch for a “fair, transparent and time-bound investigation.”
In a post on X, Mufti said the incident was “not merely another instance of rising crimes against women” but a “deep, festering wound on the conscience of our society.”
Expressing concern over the passage of 10 days since the incident, she said the continued silence surrounding the case was deepening the anguish of the grieving family and eroding public faith in the justice system.
Mufti called for decisive action and exemplary punishment for those responsible, saying such heinous crimes could otherwise continue with impunity.
She appealed to the LG to immediately transfer the case to the Crime Branch. — (KIMS)
