Man Dies, Wife Critically Injured After Tree Falls on Couple in Anantnag

Anantnag, June 2: A man lost his life while his wife sustained critical injuries after a tree fell on them in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday, officials said.
According to officials, the couple was walking along the Janglat Mandi–Lal Chowk road when an old tree suddenly uprooted and collapsed on them, leaving both seriously injured.
They were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, one of the injured, identified as Mohd Rafiq Khan, a resident of Brariaangan Uttersoo, succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts.
His wife, who also suffered serious injuries in the incident, is undergoing treatment and is stated to be in critical condition.
The incident has sparked concern among local residents, who have called on the authorities to undertake a comprehensive survey of old and vulnerable trees along roadsides to avert such tragedies in the future.
Meanwhile, officials have taken cognizance of the incident and are examining the circumstances that led to the tree’s collapse.
