Pahalgam, May 21: More than 60 livestock were reportedly killed after a lightning strike hit the Lihindagen area of Pahalgam during intense rainfall and thunderstorms late Wednesday night.

According to local sources, the lightning struck a herd grazing in the area, resulting in the death of over 60 animals and causing substantial losses to local herders. The incident has left several affected families in distress, as livestock remains a primary source of livelihood for many residents of the region.

Locals described the incident as a major setback for the pastoral community and urged the district administration to conduct an immediate assessment of the damage. They have appealed for adequate compensation and relief measures to support the affected families.

Authorities are expected to visit the area to ascertain the extent of the losses and prepare a report for further assistance.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of livestock and herders to extreme weather events, which have become increasingly frequent in the mountainous regions of Kashmir.
