Srinagar, June 6: In an effort to strengthen tourism and showcase local entrepreneurship in North Kashmir, the District Administration Kupwara, in collaboration with the Indian Army, will organise a stakeholders’ meet on June 7 at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Kupwara, said an official.

He added that the event aims to bring together key stakeholders from the tourism sector to explore opportunities for promoting tourism across the region while enhancing the visibility of local entrepreneurs and development initiatives undertaken in border areas.

“A major highlight of the programme will be the launch of the North Kashmir tourism portal, “Shumali Kashmir”, and the North Kashmir Tourism Magazine,” he added.

Officials said the digital platform and publication have been designed to provide comprehensive information about tourist destinations, cultural heritage, historical sites and nature-based attractions across North Kashmir.

Officials said that initiatives are expected to improve the region’s digital presence and facilitate easier access to tourism-related information for prospective visitors. Authorities believe the measures will contribute to positioning North Kashmir as a preferred destination for both domestic and international tourists while encouraging sustainable tourism and local economic development.

They added that programme is expected to witness participation from senior government officials, including the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, representatives of the Tourism and Planning Departments, hoteliers, tour operators, homestay owners, taxi operators and other stakeholders associated with the tourism industry.

Officials said the gathering would serve as a platform for discussions on strengthening the tourism ecosystem in North Kashmir through collaboration between government agencies, the private sector and local communities.

The event will also feature an exhibition showcasing products developed under various Indian Army-supported initiatives aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and livelihood generation in border areas. Stalls displaying products and enterprises such as Barkat Bistro, FLOWK, Harmukh Sheen Washing Powder, Keren LED Bulbs and locally produced goods from Karnah and Tulail are expected to be set up.

Organisers said the exhibition would provide local entrepreneurs and self-help groups an opportunity to interact with government officials, industry representatives and tourism stakeholders, helping them explore new markets and potential business partnerships.

Officials associated with the initiative said the event is expected to mark an important step towards promoting North Kashmir’s tourism potential, fostering community participation and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities. They added that the initiative seeks to encourage inclusive economic growth while preserving the region’s cultural heritage and natural assets through a coordinated approach to tourism development.

North Kashmir, particularly the border districts of Kupwara, Karnah, Keran, Machil and Tulail, has witnessed increasing attention from policymakers in recent years owing to its scenic landscapes, rich cultural heritage and growing tourism potential.
