J&K plans sewerage, drainage and housing projects across urban areas: CM
SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir government has outlined a series of initiatives to strengthen urban infrastructure, including drainage, sewerage, affordable housing and waste management projects across the Union Territory.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, replying to questions in the Legislative Assembly in his capacity as Minister in charge of Housing and Urban Development, said one drainage scheme is under execution in Sopore, while another has been approved during the current financial year.
To prevent direct discharge of wastewater into the Jhelum, Sewerage Treatment Plants have been envisaged in Bijbehara, Awantipora, Pampore, Srinagar, Sumbal, Hajin, Baramulla, Bandipora and Sopore.
Urban upgradation plans have also been initiated for Tral and Awantipora, while street-lighting works are planned along the Khanyar-Nowhatta axis in Srinagar.
The government has proposed two new affordable housing colonies at Bhalwal and Chak Bhalwal in Jammu. Work on the Multi-Level Car Parking facility at Mubarak Mandi is also progressing.
In Baramulla, a Used Water Management Project worth ₹37.96 crore has been approved, along with Administrative Approval for a Solid Waste Management Project, the Chief Minister’s Office said in a post on X. — (KIMS)
