Pattan: Residents of Hanjivera Pattan have raised concerns over the lack of a proper crossing on the Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway, stating that the existing crossing is nearly three kilometres away, forcing people to travel an additional distance for their daily needs.

As per the details, local residents of Hanjivera, Khore and adjoining areas assembled in a protest and raised concerns over the lack of a nearby crossing on the National Highway at Hanjivera Pattan. They said they face considerable difficulties while travelling between Pattan and their respective areas.

“When we come from Pattan, we have to travel nearly three kilometres ahead to cross the National Highway and then return towards our road. This causes significant inconvenience and wastes a lot of our time,” the residents said. They added that local people, particularly those who find it difficult to cross the highway, are forced to travel an additional three kilometres before they can reach the other side.

A local protester said, “If a woman has to visit the Khidmat Centre, she has to travel nearly three kilometres to cross the National Highway and then come back to reach the Khidmat Centre. This creates considerable difficulties, especially for women and elderly people.”

Residents said the issue also affects people travelling between Pattan, Khore, Magam, Hanjivera and adjoining areas. People travelling from Pattan towards Khore, Magam and other adjoining areas have to travel nearly three kilometres ahead to cross the highway and then return towards their respective roads.

Residents said the lack of a nearby crossing results in unnecessary travel, wastage of time and additional fuel expenses, causing daily inconvenience to commuters and local residents.

The residents have appealed to SDM Pattan Gulzar Ahmed and the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla to intervene in the matter and take necessary steps to provide a suitable crossing facility at an appropriate location, so that people of Hanjivera Pattan and adjoining areas can get relief.
