Handwara Police Bust Terror Module, Ex-Terrorist Arrested With Pistol and Ammunition
Handwara, September 9: Handwara Police, in a joint operation with the Army and CRPF, have busted a suspected terror module allegedly being operated by an ex-terrorist in the Handwara–Kupwara area.
According to police, reliable information was received regarding the activities of an ex-terrorist who was allegedly operating in a hybrid mode as part of a module linked with the banned terrorist organisation Hizbul Mujahideen (HM).
Acting on the information, Handwara Police, along with personnel of 21 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and 92 Battalion CRPF, launched a joint operation at an identified location in Handwara town.
Following a detailed security drill, the joint team apprehended the suspect, identified as Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohd Sultan Bhat, a resident of Kruhmura, Handwara.
Police said that during his apprehension, security forces recovered one Chinese-made pistol, two magazines and 16 rounds of pistol ammunition from his possession.
According to police, the arrested individual is an ex-terrorist who had previously been arrested in two cases. His alleged involvement in the activities of the terror module is now being investigated.
A case under FIR No. 232, under relevant sections of law, has been registered at Police Station Handwara.
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the complete structure and extent of the alleged module, including its network, associates and other related activities.
The operation underscores the continued efforts of security forces to identify and disrupt underground terror networks and prevent the movement and availability of arms and ammunition in the region.
