GMC Srinagar organised World Hypertension Day 2026 Celebrated at UPHC Nishat
The Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College Srinagar, in collaboration with Block Hazratbal, celebrated World Hypertension Day 2026 at UPHC Nishat with great enthusiasm and active public participation.
The event commenced with a Walkathon from 7:30 AM onwards to raise awareness regarding hypertension, healthy lifestyle practices, and the importance of regular health check-ups in preventing non-communicable diseases.
Following the walkathon, a comprehensive Screening-cum-Awareness Camp was organized for individuals above 30 years of age. Various screening services were provided, including monitoring of Blood Pressure (BP), Random Blood Sugar (RBS), Hemoglobin (Hb), and Body Mass Index (BMI). Participants also received specialist consultations, counseling regarding lifestyle modification, and free medicines.
The programme witnessed the gracious presence of Prod. S. Muhammad Salim Khan, Head of the Department of Community Medicine, GMC Srinagar, along with senior faculty members, senior residents, and postgraduate scholars from the department. The event was also attended by the Senior Consultant, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Block Hazratbal, the Block Medical Officer (BMO) Hazratbal, Medical Officers from Block Hazratbal, and other healthcare staff from the field practice area of GMC Srinagar.
The initiative aimed to spread awareness about hypertension, often referred to as the “Silent Killer,” and emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, regular monitoring, healthy diet, physical activity, and adherence to treatment in preventing complications related to hypertension and other NCDs.
The organizers appreciated the overwhelming participation of the public and reiterated their commitment towards strengthening preventive and promotive healthcare services at the community level.
