Srinagar, May 14: In a landmark initiative aimed at boosting tourism and economic development along the Line of Control (LoC), Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir Manoj Sinha on Thursday inaugurated a world-class Transit Management Centre, an immersive Pahari Cultural Centre, a grand War Memorial and a state-of-the-art War Museum in Tangdhar.

The initiative is being seen as a major step towards promoting border tourism, preserving heritage and strengthening the local economy in remote frontier areas. The newly developed facilities are expected to significantly enhance battlefield tourism and position Tangdhar among the most unique tourist destinations in Kashmir.

Once known primarily for its strategic importance and conflict history, Tangdhar is now emerging as a symbol of peace, resilience and progress. Surrounded by snow-clad mountains, lush meadows and pristine streams, the region has witnessed a steady rise in tourism, driven by attractions such as Sharda Temple, Azmat-e-Hind and Vajr Gatha.

Officials said the newly inaugurated infrastructure is expected to further accelerate tourism activities in Karnah and create employment opportunities in sectors including hospitality, transport, handicrafts, local entrepreneurship and allied services. The projects are also expected to open new avenues for battlefield and heritage tourism by showcasing the region’s rich military and cultural legacy.

The modern Transit Management Centre has been designed to facilitate smooth movement and provide enhanced convenience to passengers and tourists travelling to and from Tangdhar. Equipped with modern amenities, the centre is expected to serve as a gateway for visitors exploring the scenic beauty and heritage of Karnah.

A major attraction of the initiative is the Pahari Cultural Centre, which reflects the history, traditions, lifestyle, art, culture and traditional attire of the Pahari community. The centre offers visitors an immersive glimpse into the timeless cultural identity of the region.

The towering War Memorial has been dedicated to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives while defending Tangdhar and safeguarding the nation’s borders. Each engraved name on the memorial stands as a tribute to courage, sacrifice and patriotism.

Complementing the memorial is the grand War Museum, which chronicles the military history of the region through detailed exhibits and operational accounts from the wars of 1947-48, 1965, 1971 and the recent Operation Sindoor. The museum is expected to emerge as a major attraction for tourists, students, researchers and history enthusiasts alike.

Adding charm to the tourism circuit is the scenic Sadhna Café, where visitors can relax and enjoy panoramic views of the majestic mountains and serene valleys of Tangdhar.

The projects reflect the vision of a “New Jammu & Kashmir,” where border villages are transforming into vibrant centres of tourism, heritage and economic growth. Through the promotion of battlefield tourism and the showcasing of Karnah’s natural beauty, culture and military legacy, the Indian Army continues to play a key role in bringing development and prosperity to communities living along the Line of Control.
