Four arrested in Shopian for alleged drug consumption

SHOPIAN — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday have arrested four persons for alleged drug consumption after they tested positive for THC during drug detection tests at District Hospital Shopian, officials said.

The arrests were made after a police party from Police Station Zainapora, while conducting routine patrolling at Bandpawa Crossing, intercepted four persons who were allegedly displaying signs of intoxication.

The accused have been identified as Muntazir Bashir, son of Bashir Ahmad Mir, a resident of Hadigam, Kulgam; Mehraj Ahmad Mir, son of Gh. Mohd Mir, also from Hadigam; Umar Rashid Najar, son of Abdul Rashid Najar, a resident of Krawara, Imam Sahib; and Shakoor Gulzar, son of Gulzar Ahmad Teeli, also from Krawara.

The four were taken to District Hospital Shopian for medical examination in the presence of the village Lambardar. During the examination, all four reportedly tested positive for THC in an instant drug detection test.

Police subsequently registered FIR No. 115/2026 under relevant sections of law at Police Station Zainapora and initiated an investigation into the matter.

The arrests are part of the ongoing drive by Shopian Police against drug abuse and substance consumption in the district. — (KIMS)
