Anantnag: The recent fish mortality reported in the Panzath stream had raised concerns among fisheries officials and local stakeholders, particularly due to the stream’s proximity to the renowned Panzath Trout Farm. However, prompt intervention by the Fisheries Department has helped stabilize the situation and prevent any major impact on the farm.

Following reports of fish deaths in the stream, officials immediately initiated preventive measures and intensified monitoring of the affected area. A team from SKUAST-Kashmir also visited the site and collected samples to scientifically determine the cause of the mortality. The laboratory reports are still awaited.

According to officials, the mortality was largely confined to sections of the nearby stream and did not significantly affect the established trout farm. Continuous surveillance and timely action have helped minimize losses and contain the situation.

Deputy Inspector of Fisheries, Panzath Trout Farm, Ms. Arshi, said that the department remains vigilant and is closely monitoring water conditions and fish health. She expressed hope that the forthcoming SKUAST report will help identify the exact cause and assist in preventing similar incidents in the future.

The coordinated response by fisheries authorities and scientific experts has provided reassurance to stakeholders, while efforts continue to ensure the long-term health and sustainability of the stream’s aquatic ecosystem.
