FIR Filed Against Kashmiri Cleric on Rape Charges, Probe Set in Motion
A rape case has been registered against a Kashmiri cleric at Police Station Parimpora, in summer capital Srinagar, with police launching an investigation into the allegations.
Sources told news agency Kashmir Dot Com that an FIR bearing No. 78/2026 has been registered against Sheikh Ghulam Rasool alias ‘Hami’ Chairman of Karwaan-e-Islami, under Sections 376 and 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), following a complaint lodged by a woman accusing him of rape and outraging her modesty.
They said the case has been taken up for investigation and statements of the complainant and other relevant witnesses are being recorded as part of the probe. Further legal proceedings will be carried out based on the findings of the investigation.
Police have not issued an official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the allegations. They said the matter is under investigation and all aspects of the case are being examined.
