Employment Fraud Syndicate Dismantled in Budgam; Advocate, Politician Arrested

Jammu and Kashmir Police in Budgam district have busted an alleged employment fraud syndicate with the arrest of a practicing advocate and a regional politician, who had previously contested parliamentary elections, for allegedly cheating job aspirants through forged government appointment orders, private-sector placement promises and fraudulent welfare subsidy schemes.

The arrested accused have been identified as Advocate Jehangir Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar, a resident of Ratsun, Beerwah, and Firdous Nabi of Zabgul, Beerwah, who heads the Jammu Kashmir People’s Front (JKPF) as its chairman. Nabi has contested multiple elections, including parliamentary polls, and later joined the National Conference (NC).

Police said both accused were taken into custody following formal complaints and are presently being questioned at Police Station Beerwah.

According to police, the accused allegedly duped several job aspirants from different parts of Budgam by issuing fabricated appointment letters and making promises of lucrative employment.

During the investigation, police also seized an allegedly forged official communication carrying fake Ministry of Home Affairs stamps. The document was purportedly issued in the name of then Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and addressed to the Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Nalin Prabhat.

Police said the fabricated communication sought the immediate appointment of ten youths from different villages of Budgam as Special Police Officers (SPOs) in the J&K Police, allegedly on the directions of the Union Ministry.

So far, three FIRs have been registered in connection with the alleged fraud. These include FIR No. 183 and FIR No. 188 at Police Station Beerwah, besides a Zero FIR registered at Beerwah and subsequently transferred to Police Station Budgam.

The investigation is being conducted by a police team led by SHO Beerwah Muddasir Nazir under the supervision of SSP Budgam.

SSP Budgam Hariprasad K.K. confirmed the development to news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC), saying that formal complaints against the alleged network were continuing to be received from different parts of the district.

The SSP said the investigation was being expanded to identify other persons and links associated with the alleged syndicate. He added that more FIRs and arrests could follow as the investigation progresses.

Police have urged individuals who may have been similarly defrauded to approach the authorities and submit formal complaints so that the alleged network can be investigated comprehensively.
