DC Pulwama reviews implementation of Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan
Pulwama, Aug 27: Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, today chaired a meeting at Circuit House Pulwama to review the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and the functioning of Block Level TB Mukt Bharat Committees in the district.
During the meeting, the District Health Officer gave a comprehensive presentation on the progress made under the campaign, covering various aspects including screening of high-risk populations, diagnosis, treatment, differentiated TB care, nutritional support, TB Preventive Treatment, microbiology and NAAT performance, community participation and notification of TB cases. The presentation also outlined the roles and responsibilities of the Block Level TB Mukt Bharat Committees.
The DC reviewed the block-wise progress and sought detailed feedback from the Block Medical Officers on various parameters and indicators of the campaign. He directed all concerned to adopt a well-planned and coordinated approach for effective implementation of the PM TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan across the district.
The DC said that while Pulwama is a TB-free district, sustained and coordinated efforts are required to ensure complete elimination of TB from the district. He stressed the need for continued vigilance, intensified screening, early identification of presumptive cases and timely diagnosis and treatment so that no person suffering from TB remains undetected or untreated.
Dr. Qayoom directed the Block Medical Officers and other concerned health functionaries to prepare proper block-level plans, identify gaps and ensure their timely resolution through coordinated field-level interventions. He also called for regular field visits and directed the concerned officers and frontline health workers to visit TB patients to monitor their treatment adherence, provide counselling and ensure that they receive the required nutritional and other support.
The DC directed the health authorities to strengthen screening activities in identified high-risk villages, wards and other vulnerable locations and ensure prompt referral of presumptive cases for diagnostic testing. He also emphasised the need for proper documentation, timely updating of records and regular monitoring of the progress of TB-related activities at the block level.
Dr. Qayoom called for effective convergence among the Health Department, Panchayati Raj Institutions, local bodies and other stakeholders to strengthen community-level interventions. He directed the Block Level Committees to undertake regular reviews, identify operational and logistical bottlenecks and ensure their timely resolution.
During the meeting, the DC also highlighted the importance of active participation of NCC and MY Bharat volunteers in community mobilisation, awareness activities, screening camps and follow-up of TB patients. He called for their greater involvement in spreading awareness, addressing misconceptions and reducing stigma associated with TB, while also directing the Health Department to organise training sessions for such volunteers so that they can be used as resource persons at the community level for the effective implementation of the Abhiyan.
Emphasising a people-centric approach, the DC urged all stakeholders to work collectively towards strengthening prevention, early detection, treatment adherence, nutritional support and community participation, with the objective of sustaining the gains achieved and ensuring complete elimination of TB from the district.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioners of Tral and Awantipora, Chief Medical Officer, Pulwama; Block Development Officers; Block Medical Officers; and NCC and MY Bharat volunteers.
