Children’s Park at Wazir Bagh, Anantnag Lies in Neglect Despite Revenue Collection; Locals Seek Urgent Action

Anantnag, May 3: The Children’s Park at Wazir Bagh in Anantnag continues to remain in a state of neglect, with damaged infrastructure and poor maintenance drawing sharp criticism from residents, even as authorities continue to collect entry fees from visitors.
According to locals, most of the play equipment installed in the park, including swings, slides, and wheel rides, are either broken or completely unusable. The deteriorating condition of these facilities has not only reduced the recreational value of the park but also raised safety concerns for children.
Adding to the woes, mud and debris left behind by last year’s floods still remain scattered across the park, with no visible efforts made towards proper cleaning or restoration. The park also lacks basic greenery, as there is no grass cover, leaving the entire area dusty and unhygienic.
Residents expressed strong resentment over the fact that despite charging an entry fee of ₹50 for adults and ₹25 for children, the authorities have failed to maintain the park. “A significant amount of revenue is being generated, yet there is no improvement in the condition of the park. This clearly reflects negligence,” said a local visitor.
Parents complained that children visiting the park often return home in dirty condition due to the muddy and dusty surroundings, defeating the very purpose of having a recreational space.
Locals have urged the concerned authorities to take immediate steps to repair the damaged equipment, clear the flood debris, and develop proper green spaces. They stressed that a clean, safe, and well-maintained park is essential for the well-being and recreation of children.
The continued neglect of such a public facility, despite regular revenue collection, has raised serious questions about accountability and the effective utilization of funds, with residents hoping for swift intervention to restore the park to its intended purpose.
