Amul, Mother Dairy hike milk prices by Rs 2 per litre from May 14
New Delhi, May 13: Major dairy brands Amul and Mother Dairy on Wednesday announced an increase of Rs 2 per litre in milk prices, effective from May 14, citing rising input and procurement costs.
Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets milk under the Amul brand, said the prices of fresh pouch milk have been increased by Rs 2 per litre across major variants and packs sold in India.
The cooperative said the hike, translating to around 2.5-3.5 per cent per litre, was necessitated due to rising operational and production costs, including higher prices of cattle feed, milk packaging film and fuel.
GCMMF also said its member unions had increased farmers’ procurement prices by Rs 30 per kg of fat, marking a 3.7 per cent rise over May 2025. The last price revision by Amul was carried out on May 1, 2025.
Mother Dairy also announced a Rs 2 per litre increase in the prices of its liquid milk variants from May 14, attributing the move to a sustained rise in farmer procurement prices over the past year.
“The revision has been necessitated in view of the sustained increase in farmer procurement prices, of around 6 per cent over the past one year, despite continued efforts to limit the impact on consumers,” the company said in a statement.
Mother Dairy said the revision represented only a partial pass-through of increased costs and aimed at maintaining a balance between farmer welfare and consumer interests. It added that nearly 75-80 per cent of its milk sales realisation is passed on to farmers.
Following the revision in the Delhi-NCR market, toned milk (bulk vended) will cost Rs 58 per litre, up from Rs 56, while toned milk (pouched) will be sold at Rs 60 per litre. Full cream milk will cost Rs 72 per litre, double toned milk Rs 54 per litre, and cow milk Rs 62 per litre.
Mother Dairy, a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), sells around 35 lakh litres of milk daily in the Delhi-NCR region through retail outlets, general trade and e-commerce platforms. (PTI)
