ACB files chargesheet against former PWD R&B employee in bribery case
SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday said it has filed a chargesheet against a former Public Works Department employee in a bribery case before the Additional Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Court Srinagar.
According to ACB, the chargesheet was presented in connection with FIR No. 07/2022 registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at Police Station ACB Srinagar against Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohammad Shafi Sheikh, resident of Bamloora Ganderbal, who was then posted as Computer Operator in PWD (R&B) Circle Ganderbal.
ACB said the case was registered on March 2, 2022, following a written complaint alleging that the accused had demanded a bribe of ₹4,000 for issuance of a D-Class contractor card.
Following the complaint, ACB laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe amount from the complainant.
The bribe money was recovered on the spot, while chemical tests later confirmed the presence of phenolphthalein on the accused’s hands.
According to investigators, evidence gathered during the probe established the commission of offence under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
After completion of investigation and departmental formalities, the chargesheet was filed before the Anti-Corruption Court Srinagar on April 27, 2026, for judicial determination.
The next date of hearing in the case has been fixed for June 10, 2026. — (KIMS)
