ACB arrests Treasury clerk for allegedly accepting ₹20,000 bribe in Rajouri

JAMMU — The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday trapped and arrested a Treasury Office clerk in Kalakote, Rajouri, for allegedly demanding and accepting a ₹20,000 bribe from a retired government employee, officials said.

The accused was identified as Khadam Hussain, posted as a clerk at the Treasury Office, Kalakote.

According to the ACB, a retired fourth-class employee of the Health Department approached the bureau with a written complaint alleging that he had to withdraw ₹50,000 in gratuity from the treasury office.

The complainant alleged that Hussain initially demanded ₹25,000 as illegal gratification for processing his case for withdrawal of the gratuity amount. Despite the complainant requesting consideration of his financial condition, the official allegedly persisted with the demand.

The bribe was subsequently negotiated and allegedly settled at ₹20,000, following which the complainant approached the ACB and sought legal action.

The allegations were verified and, after registration of a case, a trap team from ACB Police Station Rajouri was constituted.

During the trap operation, the ACB team allegedly caught Hussain red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹20,000 from the complainant.

The accused official was arrested on the spot, while searches were later conducted at his residential premises in Rajouri in connection with the case.

Further investigation is underway, the ACB said. — (KIMS)
